The American Red Cross is a non-profit organization that was established to provide assistance to the populations or communities in need. The American Red Cross provides the vulnerable communities with services such as blood donation, relief from disasters, provider training, and coordinating response to disaster events in global nations. The organization has mission and vision statements that guide its activities. The mission statement of the American Red Cross is to prevent as well as alleviate human suffering due to emergencies. The provision of training opportunities to healthcare providers and volunteers ensures that the organization strengthens the capacity of the global communities to respond to their health needs. Developing competence among healthcare providers and volunteers promotes safety, quality and efficiency of care that communities receive in times of need. The focus of the organization on strengthening communities to be ready for disasters contributes to public health and safety. It ensures that communities have the essential resources that are needed to minimize the impacts of disasters on the community’s health and wellbeing. Lastly, the organization’s interventions to create awareness among the public through health education programs contribute to public health and safety (American Red Cross, n.d.-b). For instance, community education on issues such as fire prevention at home reduce the risk and rate of disasters in communities.
